Lindsay Clancy juror says lone holdout fixated on...
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: New York Post
A juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial said the lone holdout whose reluctance to acquit forced an 11-1 hung jury was fixated on the amount of blood found in the killer mom’s bedroom. Paula Devlin’s critique of the holdout echoes that of juror Kellie Farina, who went viral for accusing him of making deliberations difficult because “he had the hardest time getting off the fact that Lindsay viciously killed her children.” Devlin, 65, said the lone holdout, one of just three men on the 12-person jury, “thought there was too much blood for the wounds that she had” in the bedroom of Clancy’s Duxbury, Mass. home where she strangled her three children with exercise bands.

CA high school grads score 4.0 GPAs but can’t do basic math, profs say
Topic: Children and Family
Source: New York Post
California high school students are scoring more straight A’s than ever – but it’s not necessarily because they’re getting smarter, according to data and education experts. The number of college applicants reporting flawless GPAs of 4.0 or higher has doubled over the past decade even as state testing shows a post-pandemic plunge in reading and math comprehension — revealing a grade-inflation crisis that’s sending students who can’t even do fractions into top universities. Over the past decade, the number of students applying to the University of California system with straight A’s skyrocketed from 52,989 in 2015 to 103,138 for the class of 2025, with a notable jump during the COVID-19 pandemic between 2020 and 2022, according to UC data reviewed by The Post.

Enes Kanter Freedom says he's received death threats
Topic: Men's Movement
Source: The Post Millennial
Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has revealed that he has received countless death threat messages on social media in the wake of his declaring that he is eligible to compete in the WNBA. The women’s basketball league has been in hot water as of late over the inclusion of trans-identified males in women’s sports. Speaking with Fox News’ Harris Faulkner, Freedom said, “My DMs are full of pictures and videos of the moment that Charlie Kirk got shot. They're saying that I am next very soon, right? And this is unacceptable. And I'm getting death threats once every hour because of simply following the WNBA rules. But the commissioner of the, you know, WNBA, Cuckoo Kathy, I call her, stepped down because she couldn't take the pressure, but I just hope whoever the next commissioner is make the right decision and add the word biological in their collective bargaining, or I am playing in 2027.”

A New Startup Lets You Freeze Your Eggs For Free.
Topic: Children and Family
Source: Wired
But Is Anything Ever Free? Cofertility manages the costs of egg freezing and storage, in exchange for half the batch. One young client became suspicious of the arrangement—and started to investigate. Sue perused Cofertility’s website, clicking through text boxes of deep, soothing teal, optimistic light green, a steady purple, and an urgent orange. She was invited to a meeting almost immediately after passing the test, and within days she was video chatting with an employee who gushed that Sue would be doing the responsible thing for her own future while fulfilling the dreams of a desirous family. In the background of Sue’s Zoom, the Cofertility employee spied a piano and asked if she could record Sue playing. It’d be enticing to prospective parents who might want the eggs of a piano prodigy.

"Money to Burn"
Topic: Porn, Prostitution, and Sexual Freedom
Source: New York Post
A new book reveals just how buddy-buddy billionaire Leon Black was with creep Jeffrey Epstein In “Money to Burn” (Portfolio Books) the writer and former investment banker William D. Cohan tackles this epic tale. If “Money to Burn” is a success story, it is also a story about the hazards of new fortunes, which include massive public failure and the fear of betrayal even by lovers and close associates. Leon’s father, Eli, was a tycoon in his own right, but a disastrous merger (essentially, the acquisition of the Chiquita banana business) may have been the impetus, in 1975, for the overworked CEO of United Brands to leap from the 44th floor of what was then the Pan Am Building.

Bad Criticism
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: The Quillette
Name-calling, guilt-by-association, and other unscrupulous methods of argument are polluting our discourse. Karl Popper invited us to be clear about the problem we are trying to solve. Testing a claim is not the same as evaluating the character of the person making it, and the latter cannot be asked to stand in for the former. Because it takes cognitive effort to parse data, weigh arguments, and assess logical coherence, we often default to name-calling, ad hominem, and guilt-by-association instead. This is a lazy and unscrupulous way to argue, and it drags down discourse, not least because its prevalence has made it unremarkable.

The Secret to “Sleeping Well”:
Topic: Children and Family

A Response to Kevin Reddington [Ed: defense attorney at Lindsay Clancy trial.] I wanted to briefly respond to Reddington’s criticisms. I actually praised Reddington’s handling through the end of the trial, until I felt he blew the summation to the jury. I was also critical of his motions to substitute a holdout juror with an alternate as running against the overwhelming authority in the area. However, what triggered Reddington was not my commentary on his trial performance, but what he did outside of the courthouse when he attacked the holdout juror. It was a repugnant and unprofessional venting by counsel who should be reaffirming the right of every juror to stand with their convictions against not just the other jurors but the world.

[Ed: fascinating.] A Review of Syllabi from Graduate Schools of Education. Many graduate schools of education (GSEs) display a concerning ideological asymmetry, advancing dogmas grounded in progressive and critical theory frameworks rather than exposing prospective teachers to intellectually diverse ideas and training them in pragmatic instruction and classroom management methods. An investigation of 10 graduate education programs raises serious questions about whether GSEs are preparing teachers for the realities of the classroom or instead shaping teachers’ worldview with a belief system that is focused on immutable characteristics and activism while remaining actively hostile toward Western ideals and anything resembling traditional education.
