Looking back, the agency has granted more than $1 billion for DEI initiatives since 2021, according to an advocacy group. The Department of Education announced on Jan. 23 that it was taking steps to remove diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives from the agency, which includes putting related staff on paid leave. “These actions are in line with President Trump’s ongoing commitment to end illegal discrimination and wasteful spending across the federal government.” said a statement from the agency. “They are the first step in reorienting the agency toward prioritizing meaningful learning ahead of divisive ideology in our schools.” The decision follows President Donald Trump’s executive order “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing” issued on Jan. 20.

None of the four cases has been scheduled for oral arguments, but they were teed up to be heard during the court’s March or April sessions and be decided this term. Media Ran With Fake News Story About ICE Raids at Chicago Public Schools
Topic: Children and Family
Source: Townhall
We’re not even a week into the second Trump presidency, and the media is already running with total nonsense about an ICE raid that occurred in Chicago. You could imagine how newsrooms must’ve reacted: ICE agents harassing kids in the Chicago Public Schools system. Except it wasn’t ICE, and nothing about the original reporting was true. It was the Secret Service. The Chicago Tribune and others eventually updated their headlines, but the initial posts were all fresh fake news (via ABC7 Chicago):

Supreme Court will review Oklahoma funding of Catholic school
Topic: Children and Family
Source: Just the News
The Supreme Court agreed on Friday to hear Oklahoma's request to allow a state-funded Catholic charter school. St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School is a planned digital learning, and explicitly Roman Catholic, institution that, if approved, would become the country's first taxpayer-funded religious charter school, NBC News reported. The court will address a lower court decision deeming the school's funding to be unconstitutional. Notably, a majority of the justices profess the Roman Catholic faith. Associate Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, and Sonia Sotomayor, as well as Chief Justice John Roberts, are all Catholic. [Ed: religious schools should not be tax funded.]

State 'Bias Response Hotlines' Ask People To Snitch on Neighbors for 'Hate Speech'
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: Reason
By the end of 2025, as many as 100 million Americans could live in a state where they can be reported for protected expression. While states claim that these reporting mechanisms don't punish people for non-criminal speech acts, many also claim to attempt to stop hateful speech incidents "before they occur." According to a recent report in The Washington Free Beacon by reporter Aaron Sibarium, these reporting systems allow people to "snitch" on their neighbors. Connecticut allows people to report "hate speech" they "heard about but did not see." Vermont encourages citizens to call the police over "biased but protected speech." Philadelphia actually directs people to give the names of alleged offenders so they can be contacted.

Trump Cancels 60-Yr-Old Affirmative Action Employment Mandate for Fed Contractors
Topic: Affirmative Action
Source: NTD
President Donald Trump has repealed a legal landmark from the earliest days of the federal government that obliged federal contractors to establish “affirmative action” programs aimed at increasing workplace diversity. Trump’s Jan. 21 order titled “Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity” is focused primarily on ending diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in the federal government and among its contractors. By equating DEI initiatives with earlier efforts known as “Affirmative Action,” the order also cancels Executive Order 11246, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson on Sept. 24, 1965, as the first major policy implementation stemming from the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Study Finds Almost No Good Evidence on Gender Dysphoria Drugs for Young People

In these two meta-analyses, Canadian researchers looked at prior studies on puberty blockers and "gender-affirming hormone therapy" (GAHT) in minors and young adults up to age 26.

Age Verification Laws Meet VPNs and Lawsuits in a War Over Speech and Privacy
Topic: Children and Family
Source: Reason
Thwarted for years by the liberating power of the internet, social conservatives have resumed their crusade against sexually explicit material through age verification requirements. While sold as a means of ensuring that only adults access adult-oriented websites, the laws require people to abandon anonymity and expose potentially sensitive personal information. The browsing public has responded with lawsuits and an embrace of technology that bypasses restrictions. That may not be enough.

"I've had to do a lot of soul-searching and reading about it to not feel like I've failed as a mom," said Alex Behr, a Democrat from Portland, Oregon. "When Eli brought a 'Make America Great Again' hat home from college this summer, [Alex Behr] threw it into the corner of his bedroom. They argued about guns, immigration, and abortion, struggling to do so without permanently damaging their relationship," the article read. The mother and son have also fought over text messages regarding Trump's legal battles, with Alex writing to Eli, "Facts don't matter to you. Love you. Have a good day." Thanks To Trump Ending DEI, Babylon Bee Is Finally Able To Fire Only Female Writer
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: The Babylon Bee
[Ed: yes, satire.] The Babylon Bee would like to publicly thank President Donald Trump for making good on his promise to get rid of all those DEI rules, allowing us to take immediate action and fire our only female writer. We were sick of her not being funny but needed a good reason to get rid of her without having all those DEI employment people breathing down our necks. The office is going to go back to what it was intended to be in the first place: a gentleman's club full of fine cigars, strong beer, darts, a billiards table, and maybe we'll even get one of those armchairs that recline fully and has drink holders on both sides.

Federal DEI Officials Try To Disguise To Keep Their Jobs
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: Zero Hedge
But There's Nowhere To Hide. There will be "adverse consequences" for any diversity officials that disguise their position as something else... The hunt begins. On day one of his second term Donald Trump put the federal government’s weight behind the national push to end DEI programs by signing an executive order that would effectively dismantle them from all aspects of the federal government. The executive action calls for the termination of DEI programs, mandates, policies, preferences and activities in the federal government along with the review and revision of existing federal employment practices, union contracts and training policies or programs. Agency, department and commission heads have 60 days to terminate to the maximum extent allowed by law all DEI, DEIA and “environmental justice” offices and positions, action plans, equity-related grants or contracts as well as end all DEI or DEIA performance requirements

The ‘DEI Theory’ of Boeing’s Undoing
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: The American Prospect
Like so many superficially inane right-wing ideas, the DEI theory of the collapse of American aviation contained a kernel of accuracy. Over the past quarter-century, Boeing had devolved from a deeply meritocratic organization into an explicitly anti-meritocratic organization. Engineers and quality officials are repeatedly chastised by their superiors for having too much “knowledge.” I recently interviewed a former quality manager who told me she was mocked and ridiculed for having graduated from aviation school. She said her bosses at Boeing in Charleston, South Carolina, made rude and racist comments about her Black inspectors even as they explicitly encouraged her to hire minorities over white men with aviation experience. That’s because Boeing views its employees as fundamentally disposable and has been for decades now at war with employees who know enough about planes to resist their constant and unrelenting orders to move faster and cut corners

Who Knew a Feminist Reimagining of ‘Cinderella’ Could Be So Gory?
Topic: Political Correctness
Source: Yahoo Entertainment
Reimagining Cinderella as a horror-comedy about the misery women endure to be attractive in the hopes of catching men’s eyes, The Ugly Stepsister—which just premiered at the Sundance Film Festival—assumes an alternate POV and piles on the gore, but says merely muddled things about vanity and misogyny. As a crude plastic surgeon’s sign overtly announces, beauty is pain in this fairy tale, and young Elvira (a captivating Lea Myren) is more than willing to stomach it so long as she has a shot at royalty. Alas, what she learns is a rather obvious and pedestrian lesson, if one that’s embellished with a few memorably macabre sights.
